Forest Fire Management Training” at Chaubas

With the onset of the dry season, forests in Nepal often face the risk of forest fire. Apart from loss of forest area, forest fires have been catastrophic in terms of the scale of damage it does to the biodiversity, and infrastructure. While efforts have been laid from the government and the community side to address the problem, forest fire control has remained a challenge for all. With lack of capacity and technical knowhow, the demand for training, particularly among the community forest user groups has been overwhelming.

With this in mind, EnLiFT2 project supported "Salle Chaubas Forest Management Committee" in conducting a "Forest Fire Management Training" at Chaubas on 28-29 March 2022. The training was first of its kind following the formation of the committee. It was primarily targeted to the members of 12 community forests from wards 4 and 5, fire fighters allocated by the sub-division forest office, Chaubas and police personnel from the site.

The training covered both theoretical and practical aspects of forest fire, where participants were trained to construct a fire line, control burning and use of local tools and fire control equipment supported by the local police stations.
